Pages and Purpose
Wynter was many things to many people. She was also a gifted writer who lived her life with and on purpose—God’s purpose.
She was four when I met her. Even then she exuded uncommon reserve, confidence, and intelligence for a little girl her age. She was only five when she grasped an understanding of what it meant to give her heart and life to the Lord. When she was a tween I was a youth leader at our church. I got to witness first hand the seedlings of what became her strong commitment to live her life according to God’s plan.
On July 24, 2018 Wynter Danielle Evans Pitts fell asleep and woke up in heaven. She was 38. It was sudden. It was unexpected. It screamed UNFAIR! Impossibly difficult to accept.
On July 28, 2018 her husband, four precious little girls, mother, and brother sit in disbelief before a white lily laden silver casket to say goodbye to this exceptional young woman who authored with the clearest of purpose. Her Homegoing service was streamed online from their church in Texas. I sat in my bedroom and listened as person after person spoke of Wynter’s life and legacy. It is beyond belief that she is no longer on this earth. Reflecting on her life and work I am reminded to be ever vigilant regarding the intent of my own writing.
Wynter and her husband Jonathan met in college. They’d celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary this past June. Their four beautiful little girls, Alena, Kaitlin, and the twins Camryn and Olivia were the heart of Wynter’s ministry to young girls around the globe.
Wynter started For Girls Like You with the express purpose of teaching tweens about the love of God, encouraging them to discover the reason He created them. She was editor and founder of “For Girls Like You” magazine. In just a few short years the magazine gained a global audience and Wynter poured her heart into authoring several books. Most have been published and at least two are up for future publication. She left it all on the page for the sake of "God's Girls" and the people who are raising them.
Wynter accomplished more in her short life than most who’ve live far beyond her thirty-eight years. Her writing career bears that truth. Alena, her oldest daughter at fourteen is already a published author of three books. Her faith-based writing echoes the heart of her mom's ministry. I am certain Wynter’s legacy will flourish through her four daughters and the thousands of spiritual daughters to whom she dedicated a life of prayer and writing.
